Sclerotherapy, Also Known as the Spider Vein ‘Dissolver’!
What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy treats Varicose Veins often referred to as Spider Veins! These are the veins that appear at the surface of the skin in shades of blue and purple.
How does Sclerotherapy work?
Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution directly into the vein. The sclerotherapy solution causes the vein to scar/collapse, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually fades. After sclerotherapy, treated veins tend to fade within a few weeks, although occasionally it may take a month or more to see the full results. In some instances, several sclerotherapy treatments may be needed.
What to except post Sclerotherapy procedure?
Expect some bruising, swelling, burning to the areas treated that will fade over the next 2-14 days
*postprocedure: do not plan long travels or immobility for 2 weeks following your procedure and wear compression stockings during the day x 2 weeks post procedure
How to Prepare for my appointment?
Before the procedure, avoid shaving or applying any lotion to your legs. (Don't shave or use lotion after the procedure until the injection site is healed either.) Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment. You might even consider wearing a pair of shorts so that your legs are exposed!
